Since April 2016, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA) Mercury and Air Toxics Standards (MATS) require a reduction in mercury by approximately 90% at coal-fired power plants. 米6体育 offers process technology that can help your facility achieve and maintaining MATS compliance.

米6体育's mercury control technology uses highly porous carbon that has been ground into a powder. This powdered activated carbon (PAC) is used for adsorption of oxidized mercury absorbed into and dissolved in the FGD absorber slurry – that is, the mercury adsorbs onto the carbon and cannot be re-emitted to the atmosphere. Mercury is typically oxidized in the flue gas if either sufficient halogens are in or have been added to the coal and/or a high-dust selective catalytic reduction (SCR) catalyst DeNOx system is present.

The patented mercury control technology injects PAC either directly into the FGD scrubber slurry or upstream directly into the flue gas. When paired with a wet FGD and greater 90% oxidized mercury present at its inlet, 米6体育's mercury control technology can achieve a total reduction in mercury in the flue gas of greater 90%. And considering that PAC costs are typically less than 10% of other chemical scrubber additives, 米6体育's mercury re-emission control technology is a most cost-effective way to eliminate mercury re-emissions.

The patented mercury control technology can play an important part in your overall mercury mitigation efforts as it offers most effective oxidized mercury capture in the wet FGD slurry. Some of the advantages our technology include:

  • No baghouse requirement
  • No fly ash contamination with mercury laden PAC
  • No gypsum contamination with mercury complexes (i.e. HgS)
  • Effective mercury re-emission control without any impact on the scrubber chemistry
  • Minimal PAC requirements (0.2 lbs/MMacfm versus 3-10 lbs/MMacfm)
